Indications:

1.       Prevention of acute nausea and vomiting induced by severe emetogenic chemotherapy.

Mechanism:

Palonosetron is a 5-HT 3 receptor antagonist with a strong bindingaffinity for this receptor and little or no affinity for other receptors.5-HT3 receptors are located the nerve terminals of the vagal in the periphery and centrally in the chemoreceptor trigger zone of the area postrema. The chemotherapy drugs produce the vomit reaction by stimulating the enterochromaff in cells to release 5-HT, and then 5-HT activates the 5-HT3 receptors in vagal afferents.
