Indications:

1.       Treatment of severe acute bleeding from oesophageal varices;

2.       Severe acute haemorrhage from gastric or duodenal ulcers, or accompanying acute erosive or hemorrhagic gastritis;

3.       Prophylaxis and treatment of postoperative complications following pancreatic surgery.

4.       Adjuvant treatment in pancreatic, biliary and intestinal fistulae.

5.       Adjuvant treatment in diabetic ketoacidosis.

Mechanism:

1.        Reduce the humoral vasodilating substances in blood --> Indirectly block vasodilation

1.  Selectively contract visceral blood vessels --> Decrease the blood flow of portal and azygos veins --> Reduce portal pressure

1.  Inhibit the secretion of gastric acid and pepsin --> Promote platelet agglutination and clot shrinkage --> Decrease the blood flow in gastrointestinal tract.
